Demi Bra

A brassiere or more common as bra is an undergarment that supports, covers, and also elevates the breasts. It is similarly considered as a foundation garment, other than an undergarment, since it shapes the wearer’s figure. A bra has a lot of colors, designs, brands and types. One of its types is the demi bra.

So, what is a demi bra? The demi bra has a cut-away design incorporating a cup that covers the breast’s lower part, revealing the top part and oftentimes includes the nipple and areola. It usually uses an underwire for the lift effect. Demi bras provide a certain way to display and elevate the breast keeping it semi-nude or nude. As underwear, demi cup bra is suitable for low cut dresses.

Demi bra is often compared or likened to a push-up bra. But there only difference is that the demi bra exposed the nipples while the push-up bra does not. Bikini tops can be demi bras if women wearing them want to test exposure limits. This is often done in popular so-called beaches as Topless Beach and Bikini Beach. And also, there are female celebrities who prefer to wear specially made bras that tease the areola or that the nipple can be seen at certain angles.

Furthermore, the demi bra is related to a quarter-bra wherein it looks like a foundation is its only element, while the entire part of the breast is bare. Sometimes, the tri-string haltered demi or currently known as “spider” is considered to be one of the demi bras species. The comparison was based on the demi-like nature of the garment. Akin to a demi bra, spider bras also support the lower half of the breast, while exposing the upper half with areolas and nipples visible. But others will oppose to the comparison saying that the demi-halter does not have the push-up ability of the demi bra, and that halter is not appropriate to describe it, but rather spider will be more like it.

The primary purpose of such brassiere is to supply support to a bare-breasted subject, and to highlight and frame this part of a woman’s anatomy. Most females who wear this kind of bras are performers and dancers, as well as those who want to test their cleavage. This may be rare or never heard of for some, but the truth is, demi bras are not new and modern. In fact, this has been used way back in 1866 as seen on a painting portraying an Egyptian girl wearing the demi type of bra, dancing in front of Caesar. And in 1949, Marilyn Monroe modeled for such bra. Since then, demi bra took part as one of the underwear.

The cutouts demi bras are made use as costumes of the ecdysiast or the ancient term for strippers. But it was worth noting then since ecdysiast had been indicators for beachwear. The cutouts were manifestations of fetish wear, and were not unusual to be seen used as costumes particularly at nightclubs.

Demi bras are very similar to cutout bras. Looking at them closely, you cannot seem to see any difference through their concepts. From the name itself, the bra’s cup is cut at the center and the same with a demi bra, the areola, nipples and the breast are exposed. Both bras, the cutout and the demi can be fairly called as the peek-a-boo style of brassieres.

The demi bras are both accepted as a bikini fashion and underwear. Although the latter is practically safe to use within the bedroom walls, it is doubtful if wearing the former on the beach is a good day, even at some topless beaches where nipples and breasts are not so much of an issue. Ironically, there are some fashion models, who did not agree to model topless but agreed to model these leave-little-to-the-imagination pieces of underwear. Is this how fashion is?

But at present, a lot of lingerie designer have adapted to this bra type. Designer brand like Liz Claiborne has a more modest look of the demi bra. The cut is still low but the nipple and areola are certainly covered. Daring designs showed transparent laces covering the center, while most are covered demurely. All in all, their collections of demi bras are just magnificent and project nothing but glamour and style.
