Sports Bra

The sports bra is another type of brassier that firmly supports the breasts. From the name itself, it is specially intended for rigorous activities that may cause breasts to bob around. With sport bras, it prevents embarrassments and discomfort during physical exercises. Sports bras are more durable than any regular brassiere as it offers more chest support, enhancing ease and comfort thereby reducing any chances of damaging chest ligaments within the course of any high-impact and highly active exercises such as running, and jogging.

Early sports bra dated back from 1977. It was then initiated by two women who cut up and sew a pair of jockstraps to form it into a bra, which was then called a Jog bra. Other designs from way back used water pads and gel, air bags, or silver fibres. Wacoal had compressed, molded and shaped their version of a sport bra called the stitchless bra. While the other forms of brassieres were knitted in a circular pattern, providing with support and varying stretch. Common sports bra is made with Lycra, an absorbent and stretchable fabric, which was good in drawing out and drying perspiration away from the skin preventing any skin allergies or irritations.

Some sports brassieres are designed and manufactured into two variations, the encapsulation bras with molded cups or compression bras that hinders any movement by creating a flat chest or by flattening the breasts. The encapsulation is better for discomfort reduction while the compression is suitable for serving modesty.

A large number of women particularly those with the pendulous or sagging breasts find sports bra to be very helpful in easing away pain and embarrassment. However, there are also the kinds that are meant to wear as an outerwear, like that for jogging. When it comes to brassieres, more researches on the subject are likely focused on sports bra, wherein any discomfort is associated to nipple movements.

Approximately half percentage of the women is heard complaining of any bothering unpleasantness felt after a rigid workout. However, such grumbling depends on the intensity of the physical exercise or what the outfit is. In some Australian study wherein three bare breasted women were photographed exercising. Two of these women were wearing a regular bra, and the other one with a sports bra. As expected, motions were greatly reduced by the brassieres, but it was the sports bra that was highly effective. All three women reported of lesser discomfort especially the woman wearing the sports bra.

However, it is believed that not all sports bra are equally created and must be fitted properly. Like any other bra types, it too, should well fit on you. A perfectly fitted bra provides the more comfort, ease and protection. The more efficient a bra is, the lesser risk of discomfiture. Although, there are indeed women athletes complaining of concerns regarding sports bra possibly interfering with their breathing, and probably will increase pressure on their rib cage as well. However, so far, there is no significant result that appease to these reported concerns.
